Kolkata Airport Transfer Guide (2026) - All Options & Tips
Find reliable guidance for transferring from Kolkata Airport, including helpful local tips and common pitfalls to avoid for a smooth journey.
We have not yet verified how travellers currently reach Kolkata from the airport serving it, so we are not publishing routes, operators or fares we cannot stand behind. For what is running on the day you travel, the arrivals information published by your arrival airport is the reliable source, and your accommodation will usually know what works best for the hour you land.
Helpful Tips
Download the Ola or Uber app for reliable app-based taxi booking across Kolkata
Grab the Kolkata Metro smart card. It works on both Blue and Green lines. Swipe once, ride anywhere. No tokens, no queues. Smooth travel, every time.
Spot the yellow Ambassador taxis outside Howrah Station. They run fixed-rate trips to central areas. Haggle zero. Pay what the sign says. Quick, well-known, honest.
Ride the air-conditioned Volvo buses. Routes like AC1, AC2 serve the airport. Economy prices, chilled seats. Cheaper than cabs. Comfort without the splurge.
Common Scams to Avoid
Pre-paid taxi drivers at Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport sometimes claim the voucher counter is closed and insist on a much higher meter-plus-fare; insist on using the official prepaid booth inside the terminal and keep the printed receipt.
Unofficial porters inside the arrivals hall grab bags without invitation and then demand inflated tips. Firmly decline any unsolicited help and only use porters wearing official airport badges.
Touts posing as 'airport information staff' direct arriving passengers to private cars parked outside, claiming the prepaid taxi queue is hours long. Ignore anyone not stationed behind an official airport counter and follow the clearly marked taxi signs.
